SYAS facilitate numerous projects to ensure their voices are heard:
RAISE – Raising Awareness In Schools through Experience
RAISE delivers presentations to schools in either a classroom or assembly setting to talk about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and emotional wellbeing and mental health. This is done through interactive exercises and incorporating SYAS’s real life experiences into a learning context. If you would like your school involved in RAISE make sure to contact us!
SYAS members facilitate with The User Voice and Participation Team Total Perspective. Total Perspective is training for professionals in Surrey who work with children and young people, this could be social workers, teachers, police and many more! The aim of Total Perspective is to ensure professionals understand what it feels like for a child or young person accessing services. This includes young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities!
Recruit Crew is a project which trains young people to be a part of an interview panel to help recruit professionals for children’s services. Young people have an equal say if who successfully gets hired. You also get paid hourly for this! If you would like to be Recruit Crew trained make sure you contact us!
The YES! Awards are a celebratory evening SYAS and The User Voice and Participation Team facilitate annually. The YES! Awards celebrate the achievements of children and young people with SEND as well as giving young people the opportunity to nominate the professionals that have gone above and beyond for them.
To prepare for the YES! Awards, the User Voice and Participation team take SYAS members on a 3 day residential to practice for the awards ceremony. To find out more information make sure to check out the YES! Awards page!
If you would like to take part in any of the above projects, please do contact The User Voice and Participation Team!
